LOVE STORY

I’m not naming this post Love Story because it has anything to do with a cheesy Taylor Swift song, in fact quite the opposite, because this story began towards the end of their life. They ceased a moment, and ignited a small spark that they found within each other. I attended the wedding of Jennifer and Don in November during the time I was writing my final exams. Jennifer was marriage before for 30 years, in that marriage she had three girls. Her husband was killed in a freak accident when he was killed waterskiing- Jennifer and Don met in Ireland when she decided to go travelling Europe. And after three months together he proposes. The wedding was a beautiful occasion- and I felt so privileged being able to celebrate this occasion. As you can see from the photographs all the kids got involved and where dressed in formal attire as flower girls and ring bearers.

CHAINED

Besides being an internet addict, my other form of procrastination comes through photography. But this post isn't going to be about what I've been up to lately, but rather why the next photographs you will see are actually very significant and have a purpose on this blog.

“She wins who calls herself beautiful and challenges the world to change to truly see her.” – Naomi Wolf

I have been called a feminist, but I look at myself as someone who embraces there femininity rather than trying to expel it as many feminist do. I don’t burn my bras, or throw my stockings away- neither do I banish everything relating to the male sex. BUT I do believe that women need to embrace the supremacy they have inside themselves in order to empower their self-worth
Women have become the subject to societies ideas of the “perfect” women- skinny, tanned, can wear anything and look good. I am not one of those women.

These photographs are going to tell their story- so scroll down and have a look at my new puzzle pieces.

We've become society's puppets

We paint our faces, because without it we are nothing

Frustrated with our own minds

We dress up and put on the show

Captured in our own bodies

Society's image of perfection

Lost

We beat up our own bodies- degrading

Yet we still pray for perfection
*You would think that because I had a sister I could force her to be my model. But I must say I rather enjoyed running around the garden.

AMBLED INTO ASSEMBLY

Cape Town’s Assembly was the home to some insane bands last night, which took the stage with poise and talent. Being in the front row was an unbelievable experience – being so close to Zebra & Giraffe with their Halloween make-up…WHAT A PERFORMANCE!

The view of Space Bar (Longstreet) from Stones opposite the road- top floor

This group of people certainly took "party bus" to a whole new level

The Mystics where the first band up when I arrived. The energy on the stage could probably light up a part of the city

Seeing Shortstraw live kinda made me fall in love with them- there music is brilliant

ZEBRA & GIRAFFE (11.30PM)

When Zebra & Giraffe came on stage I swear I was about to light up with excitement. I was front row, standing right there with my favorite band playing- A night to always be remembered

These photos where not taken with my professional camera- I was only using a friends small digital Canon IXUS 105. But with a bit of editing it produced some fine photos.
HUGE thanks to Kevin for putting up with me and my Zebra & Giraffe addiction. Love you.

LET'S GET ON THE BUS

I have impeccable ways of hypnosis, I swear, people seem to be bowing at my feet these days. So after a rough week of studying and feeling rather like cabin fever hit me, I managed to get out to the beautiful city of Cape Town. Beautiful things always seem to occur in this town of treasures. The yet-to-be-baptized car Penelope became our main form of transport- destination Clifton beach, this expedition consisted of searching for a nude beach (still not if it still exists) , becoming best friends with an Indian touring group- and almost climbing on their bus, finishing off with a refreshing drink and Western Province winning the rugby (like I actually cared). Evenings plans where underway soon after our fun filled day…SUMMER IS BACK!
Photos soon to come… Watch this space

SEVERED

So I suppose I have to post some cheesy words about how any of this relates to my life, feelings and emotions- so here it goes…
It’s funny how some things just coming at the wrong time. Severing that bond might have prevented the incidents that occurred. As this year comes to an end it’s only common for me to look back at this year and think of every bit of it as a memory treasured in a gold box. Drawing it to a close, is as if the bond of memories is being severed- opening another huge gap for the nest year to come, but you can’t help hoping wishing that you just had a little time left- to correct mistakes, fix the past and plan the present. But time isn't like a cake, you can’t simply turn off the oven and hope it stops baking- time’s oven is permanently switched on.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHY-These specific photos have been taken over the course of the last two years. I seem to be favouring black and white photography lately; I think it might have something to do with my obsession with the past and old artefacts  Using some of my editing skills I've just added my own ‘signature’. The past is carved in our memories- marked.

IMPERFECTION

Imperfection- /ˌimpərˈfekSHən/

Noun:
1.  A fault, blemish , or undesirable feture
2. Something imperfect; a defect or flaw

In the eyes of an artist; we all want our art work to have perfection. Imperfection makes the artwork a work of perfection.  Many people allow their blog to become an online diary, a chronological story of events of their lives- thoughts and feelings are explored and vomiting up personal feelings becomes “relevant”. Yes, as humans we seem to embrace our imperfections- is that what makes an artwork perfection at the eyes of the beholder, but imperfection to the artist?

WINGS carry us, physically we fly on planes, leaving home or creating a new one. Wings allow us to extend our horizons- to fly above the expectations. Wings carry us to people, in dreams and reality.

BLACK BLANCHED SILHOUETTES

+ 15 June 2012- these photos where taken. A beautiful way to celebrate the life of someone so loved. I remember seeing this view and thinking that when I come back to South Africa in a year I will come to this exact place at 6.00pm.

In a week I finish my mock exams. I can hardly wait! 10 days of freedom is so close. Then it's back to the books for another month.

Flight is booked for 6 January 2012, where I will be departing from South African International airport to London, UK. Next year is sorted, only to finish this year...then the fun begins.

GALLIVANT.

I can’t think about many things more boring that having to read about someone else’s life, but here it goes.

There’s this beautiful wine estate on the R44 called Longridge. On Saturday afternoon I expeditioned there with my family only to be welcomed with fantastic food and a brilliant bouquet of wine- We spent a lovely afternoon there. Kevin and I then took advantage of him having stole his sisters car- and went gallivanting off to the beach. So my weekend ended very well having done NO studying and having spent lots of money
